Google has put its stamp on many different areas in the technology world. Their search engine is the absolute best search engine in the business. Their web browser gets more and more popular every day. And they have even started to put their stamp on the television market–and it’s creating quite a buzz. That’s due to the fact that Google has had such a sterling reputation in the computer and technology industry.
There might be one area that could be taking a hit. Google has made its way into the phone market by introducing their Android Operating System into the cell phone market. The idea was that it would be much like Microsoft. In order to compete with Apple when Windows first came out was by making it available to everyone. This allowed the rest of the computer market to embrace the technology.
The Android system has done the same thing. They have allowed their Droid technology to be used in the open market by a host of different phone companies. The market is now flooded with these Droid phones. This, with the Iphone and RIM’s Blackberry phone, have become the most recognizable phones around. The question is if Droid has the same sterling reputation that the other two brands do.
The answer looks to be “no.” The issue with allowing the rest of the market use the technology is there is no built in system for quality control. To this end there are a number of Android phones that lack battery life, solid performing touch screens, and quick response time to applications. What this does is it hurts the Google brand name, even though Google’s technology might not be at fault for the issues on a specific phone.
The future is bright for Google, but their Droid phones need to be made by those who know what they are doing. Otherwise, the Android system will continue to get a rep it doesn’t deserve.
